Man arrested in Chatham after being found with metal baton and drugs

A man has been arrested after being found with a metal baton.

Officers were on patrol in Bournville Avenue, Chatham, when they spotted a car accelerating away from them at around 7pm on Friday.

The suspicious behaviour alerted them and they pursued the vehicle.

After catching up with the car and stopping it they seized a quantity of cash, a plastic bottle containing suspected packets of cocaine and a metal baton.

A police spokesman said: "A 30-year-old man from Gillingham was arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs and possession of an offensive weapon, and has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.
