Arrest after hunt by armed police after man seen in Chatham High Street with suspected firearm

A five-hour hunt by armed police for a man seen with a suspected firearm on a busy high street, has ended with an arrest.

Officers were called just after 10.40am after reports a man had been seen in possession of a suspected firearm at a premises in Chatham High Street.

The man later left the premises and the police helicopter and armed officers were called in to help search for him.

A 35-year-old man from Strood was arrested at 3.40pm and has been taken into custody.
