A clown, illusionists and acrobats have landed their big top in Rochester - and you've still got until Sunday to see them.

Chipperfields Circus has a history that stretches back as far as 1684, when James Chipperfield entertained on the frozen River Thames during the Great Frost Fair of 1684.

After that, in 1824, Chipperfields were the first to bring acrobats and dancers to Britain from Africa and from Mexico.

And their experience certainly shows with Tony Hopkins and Ross Presto producing the show that is performing matinees and every evening this week.

The Medway Messenger was invited to the opening evening and enjoyed classic illusions and acrobatics as well as original performances, such as Alina Eskina's skilful, elegant and sexy 'cube' routine.

Angelo Chaves, the circus's clown, was particularly entertaining, pulling audience members from the crowd to participate in acts that had young and old in stitches.

Chipperfields Circus, which is on tour in Britain, will be at Jackson's Field, Rochester until Sunday, November 12. The on-site box office is open daily between 10am and 8pm, or ring 0844 4155 228 for tickets.
