Woman hit by car on A2 in Gillingham airlifted to hospital with serious injures

A woman has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after she was struck by a car on the A2.

A large number of emergency crews were called to the scene of the incident in Gillingham's Watling Street, which was shut off by police.

The woman, who is in her 60s, was hit by a blue BMW near the junction with Holmside at about 3.45pm.

Onlookers said police, fire crews and as many as six ambulances were at the scene.

An air ambulance landed nearby and took the woman to a London hospital, where she remains.

Her injuries are described as "serious".

Police closed the road and advised motorists to avoid the area.

Officers from Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) have issued an appeal for witnesses.

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was driving in the area and may have relevant dashcam footage.
