Snodland site manager honours father’s legacy after winning award for Maidstone development

A building site manager has won a prestigious award after following in his late father’s footsteps.

Darrell Wilson, from Snodland, began work as a carpenter at 16 like his dad, who sadly passed away when he was 10-years-old.

Now 43, he has been recognised for his work overseeing the building of hundreds of homes in Otham, Maidstone.

Darrell is currently heading up the construction team at Bellway’s Parsonage Place, where he has won a Seal of Excellence in the National House Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job competition.

“I’m humbled by it,” he said. “It’s brilliant to win the award and to be recognised for my work.

“I care and I work hard for the team, for the site, and for the subcontractors.”

The NHBC has been running Pride in the Job for more than 40 years and more than 8,000 sites registered with them are automatically entered into the competition.

Darrell also praised his team for their high-quality work and great communication – in particular his assistant site manager Grant Levey, who he has worked alongside for six years.

“We have great teamwork, and we both work hard, and I know I can trust him 100 per cent,” he added.

“We overlap, organise and try our very best to make the houses the very best we can.”

Chris Moore, managing director for Bellway said: “Congratulations to Darrell for this fantastic award win.

“His knowledge, experience and skill are considerable and, combined with his appetite for hard work, it’s easy to see why the NHBC has judged him deserving of this prestigious accolade.”
