The blaze began when the roof of a house caught alight in Teston Road, West Malling, at about 7pm yesterday.

Seven fire engines and a height vehicle were sent to the scene, as well as the technical rescue unit.

Kent Fire and Rescue Services’ (KFRS) volunteer response team was also on-hand to offer support to affected residents.

People in the local area were advised to keep windows and doors closed, due to smoke coming from the incident.

Teston Road was also expected to be closed for several hours, while the firefighting operations continued.

At 10.12pm only four fire engines and the height vehicle remained at the scene while the road remained closed.

Today, at 8am, one fire engine remained at the house.

A spokesman said: "The fire is now believed to be out and crews are monitoring the property to check for any remaining hotspots.

"One person was passed into the care of South East Coast Ambulance paramedics as a precaution, after inhaling smoke during the incident.

"They had also sustained slight burns to their arm and and hand. The cause of the fire is not yet known."
