Aylesford: Ben Veitch found safe and well after going missing

A 22-year-old man reported missing from Aylesford has been found safe and well.

Kent Police deployed dogs and drones earlier this week in the search for Ben Veitch, who had last been seen in the Pratling Street area at around 4am on Saturday.

Search and rescue teams asked family and friends not to launch search parties of their own, in order to avoid confusion.

His black BMW had earlier been found abandoned in Eccles on Monday.

By the evening, it was established Mr Veitch was in woods between Eccles and Old Church Road in Burham.

His father, Bob Veitch, told friends he was ignoring the advice to go out and search for his son.

At 12.30am today, Mr Veitch revealed his son had been found safe and well, issuing a moving thanks to friends.

He said: "We have been through every emotion possible, but I have never experienced or seen love in the way that I did today. We all knew that Ben is thought of with affection by everyone, but if he ever doubted it he will only have to think about the way that all of you have acted today.

"We all had reason to fear for his safety. Your messages of support were truly appreciated, and helped us through a worrying day.

"I am incredibly blessed to have you all as my friends and neighbours. When the call went out, you came in massive numbers, and searched for Ben in extremely difficult circumstances. The love for Ben, and the community spirit was beyond anything I have ever come across before.

"When it looked like we were not going to find him, people kept going back, ignoring the obvious dangers to themselves.

"Thank you.

"Ben has had medical help, a bath, and some food. He will need help, but I am confident that now we have him safe, we will get him back fully. He is loved. He knows that now without doubt. He will recover.

"Because of you he will be well again."

It is thought a member of the public found Mr Veitch.

A spokesperson from Kent Police said: "Officers would like to thank all the members of the public who assisted with the search."
