Lee Worgan has grown into the captaincy at Maidstone.

Stones turned to their goalkeeper to take the armband after releasing Steve Watt last November.

It took time to adjust to the extra responsibility but now it’s second nature to the former Wales under-21 international.

Worgan said: “It’s no secret I was, and still am, really good friends with Watty, so it was a little bit strange taking it over from someone I’m quite close to but I fit into it quite well.

“It is a little added responsibility because you’re the one that’s got to gee the boys up, you’re sort of the management on the pitch.

“Sometimes being in goal it is difficult so it took a little bit of time for me to establish that role but I am enjoying it.

“I feel quite proud to be the captain. Straight away I texted Watty and explained the situation and he was fully behind it.”

Worgan and Maidstone make the long trip to Somerset for a rearranged game at struggling Weston on Tuesday night.

Victory would cut Ebbsfleet's lead at the top of National League South to seven points, with another two games in hand.

Stones boss Jay Saunders is considering changes, having felt his side looked leggy in the 2-2 draw at Wealdstone on Saturday.

Saunders said: "Weston are an indifferent team. I've heard some good stuff and some bad stuff. Maybe that's why they are where they are.

"It's another difficult away game. It's a long journey but we've had one defeat in 10 so we can go there with a little bit of confidence and hopefully, first and foremost, try and get a clean sheet and a win."
