Bobby-Joe Taylor picked up where he left off last season by scoring another special goal for Maidstone.

He gave United the lead in their National League opener against York on Saturday, exchanging passes with Dan Sweeney before drilling the ball across keeper Scott Flinders and into the far corner.

It sparked memories of the winger's wonder strike in the National South play-off final at Ebbsfleet three months earlier.

Taylor said: "For me personally it’s just good to get off the mark in the first game.

"Hopefully now I can drive forward and there’ll be more to come after this.

"The ball broke, it was a little one-two with Sweens, no one came out to me so I got the shot off and it went on. I’m really pleased.

"I didn't really know what to do when I scored. It came as a bit of a shock."

Taylor's goal wasn't enough for victory, with York levelling midway through the second half.

He added: "Three points would have been great but a point’s better than nothing, it’s the first one on the board.

"York are an experienced side, a good side that have come down from League 2.

"The side we’ve put out, we’ve had a really good go and we’re all disappointed we haven’t come away with three points because I think we deserved it.

"We’ve just come up, we're full of energy and we’re really excited about this season."
