Stones ran ragged by league leaders

Maidstone Rugby Club suffered a heavy 61-8 defeat against leaders Basingstoke in London 2 South on Saturday.

The home side started strongly and opened the scoring inside the first minute when Chris Trezise managed to charge down a clearing kick. The rebound fell to Steve Matthews, who picked the ball up and sprinted to the corner.

Basingstoke quickly took control and moved ahead through a converted try.

The visitors then added a second try.

Basingstoke added a third try which was answered by a penalty from Tom Searles on the stroke of half-time.

In the second half, Basingstoke ran the Maidstone defence ragged and went on to score five further tries.
