Stones hit by late treble at Staines

Staines 3 Maidstone 1

Maidstone were beaten by two late goals at Staines on Tuesday night in the Ryman League, Premier Division.

The Stones had taken a second half lead through James Pinnock but the hosts hit back to take the points with a late surge at Wheatsheaf Park.

After a goalless opening half, first blood went to Maidstone, when striker Pinnock netted after 52 minutes.

Second placed Staines went into the game without a loss in their last 10 league outings but that looked under threat until the dying minutes.

A late penalty produced the equaliser when Richard Butler was fouled in the box and Dave Sargent converted the penalty past the Stones keeper.

Then with 90 minutes on the clock Staines hit a winner when Butler sent a powerful header into the roof of the net. The hosts still had time to add a third, deep into injury time, when Howard Newton cut inside and converted to secure the points.
