Maidstone United striker Shamir Mullings ready to silence the doubters

Shamir Mullings is out to prove his critics wrong after setting a 20-goal target at Maidstone.

The former Forest Green striker feels he has a point to prove after joining the Stones on a one-year deal.

He scored in Saturday's 5-0 friendly win over Nottingham Forest under-23s and again in a 3-2 comeback victory against Brentford B on Tuesday.

The big man looks sharp and is determined to show what he's all about.

He said: "My target is 20 goals for the season.

"I want to push myself, I want to play as much as I can and help the team get high up the table and stay there as long as we can.

"Hopefully that means promotion, or play-offs, whatever it's going to be.

"My main aim is to score a lot of goals to prove to everyone who thought I couldn't do it, that I can.

"A lot of people put a lot of doubt in me and I've come here to play and prove I can do it."

Mullings sees no reason why he and fellow new boy Joe Quigley can't play in the same side this season.

They could be fighting for one slot as the main striker if Jay Saunders uses his favoured 4-3-3 system.

But as two big targetmen, they would keep defenders busy if they get the chance to play together.

Mullings said: "On the pitch everyone's got great ability and the power of Quigs and myself will bring that out.

"As a striker you always want somebody who's going to push you.

"I'll be there, Joe will be there to play and it's up to the gaffer who he picks.

"If Joe's doing well, I'm going to be chomping at the bit to get in.

"Hopefully you get to see the both of us play together which would be a good thing in this league.

"You'll see there are a lot of big centre-halves and big teams you come up against that just want to try and steamroller you because you're young.

"So in terms of myself and Joe together it would be really good to have two big centre-forwards that are going to give them a few bashes here and there and help our team get over the line."
