A MOTE Ladies cricket side from Maidstone triumphed in the inaugural indoor Under-13 Lady Taverners National Trophy.

The girls from the county town travelled to the indoor school at Warwickshire’s county ground at Edgbaston and swept all before them.

Some 200 teams across 30 counties started the competition before Christmas with four regional winners battling it out in a round robin contest for the tag of national champions.

The Mote Ladies (96 for one) beat Portsmouth (62 for five) in the first round, overcame Kings Norton by 10 runs in round two and then edged aside St Aidens by five runs to finish the day unbeaten.

They collected their silverware from former England women's team captain Rachel Heyhoe-Flint, president of the Lady Taverners, and ex-Warwickshire and England bowler Tim Munton.
