Guy Luzon praised the standard of refereeing in the Championship after his side drew 1-1 with Fulham amid criticism the officials failed to spot an offside that led to Charlton’s goal.

There were suspicions that Johann Gudmundsson’s equaliser, to cancel out Ross McCormack’s opener, was offside much to the dismay of opposition manager Kit Symons.

Luzon said: “I don’t know if it was offside. If it was offside it was offside.

“The level of the referee in this league is great, they did an excellent job. If they make one or two mistakes in the season it is normal but we have great referees in this league.”

Luzon also praised his opponents for the way they played at the Valley and the difficult game they gave his side.

“It was a tough game against a great opponent. They have a lot of quality to move the ball well and they press well. They have the target man and they arrived at The Valley to play positive football.

“We tried to play positive football, we scored one and we created the chance to score the second with Tony (Watt) in the second half, but I think a draw reflected what happened on the field.

“Fulham had semi chances to score in the second half. We had a poor line of defence in the first half with their long ball, in the second half we managed it better.

The Israeli manager also praised the work of his goalscorer who has now netted 10 times this season.

He added: “Gudmundsson played well tonight in defence and offence, he had the opportunity to score the second but its part of the game, we cannot blame him because when a player runs and gives everything for the team it’s football.”

Charlton sit in 11th in the table with five games left in the season.
