Hume wary of Staines backlash

Maidstone v Staines

Maidstone joint-manager Lloyd Hume reckons Staines will arrive at Bourne Park on Saturday needing no motivation after seeing their unbeaten 12-game Ryman League Premier Division run ended in midweek.

The 2-1 reverse at Harrow Borough was their first since a 3-2 home defeat by runaway leaders Dover last November and Hume said: “This is definitely going to be the worst time to play them, coming off the back of a loss, because they will be very fired up, and probably make a tough game even harder.”

The two teams meet for the second time in only 11 days, after Staines won 3-1 at Wheatsheaf Park, with two late goals, after Stones took a first-half lead.

Midfielder Aaron Lacy has joined Margate and striker Craig Thompson has moved to Faversham in the past few days. Hume said both players wanted first-team-football which Stones couldn’t guarantee.
