Maidstone United v Horsham

MAIDSTONE UNITED co-manager Lloyd Hume has admitted he is "too long in the tooth" to read too much into a promising pre-season.

The Stones kick off their Ryman League Premier Division campaign at home to Horsham on Saturday on the back of just two defeats in nine friendlies, a sequence which includes an eye-catching victory over Football League new boys Dagenham & Redbridge.

But Hume said the real action begins this weekend for his newly-promoted team.

He said: "Pre-season has gone very, very well, but I'm a bit long in the tooth for it to give me an indication of how we are going to do this season.

"Everybody thinks they can win the league at this stage of the season, and the first three or four games are always a bit like cup finals, so we need to be ready."
