Hume plays down half-time fracas

Lloyd Hume is playing down his half-time spat with Hendon boss Gary McCann in the Ryman League Premier Division game at Harrow on Saturday.

McCann had to be dragged away by his coaching staff, after grabbing the Maidstone United joint manager around the throat, and aiming a punch at him.

Referee Dave Margetts banished both bosses to the stand for the second half, but Hume, who is operating under the threat of a six- game suspended touchline ban imposed at the start of the season, is willing to forgive and forget.

Hume said: "He (McCann) apologised to me and we had a drink in the bar afterwards. It was something out of nothing really, but I thought his behaviour was somewhat bizarre. It was handbags stuff really, and I am not going to hang Gary out to dry over it, because he is going through what I did last season."

Following the 2-0 loss at Hendon and the defeat by the same scoreline to champions Dover on Easter Monday, Hume admits Stones’ play-off hopes are over, but is determined to end the season on a positive note.

He said: "I have challenged the players to finish the season with 60 points, and that should be good enough to see us in the top 10, which is good bearing in mind what we have been through."

Stones travel to Ashford Town in Middlesex on Saturday and meet Harrow Borough at Bourne Park on Tuesday.

Striker James Pinnock will miss the rest of the season after suffering damaged knee ligaments following a poor challenge by Hendon defender James Burgess.

Elliot Bradbrook is also out, while skipper Jay Saunders’ knee injury is still sore and defender Ashley Ulph has been sidelined by a knee injury.
