FORMER England all rounder Phil DeFreitas has signed for the Lashings World XI.

DeFreitas, who has won 44 Test caps and played in 103 ODI, joins fellow England international, the Ashes winning captain Clare Connor, in the Maidstone-based side.

This will be the first time in their history that Lashings have had two England international players contracted to play in the famous gold and black quartered kit for the full season.

Chairman David Folb said: "Lashings World XI is honoured to welcome one of the icons of the English game to the camp.

"Phil DeFreitas is not only one of the great characters of the game and popular addition to the squad but still has a lot to offer the fans in terms of cricketing ability. We are looking forward to seeing him in action for us."

DeFreitas retired last season after a first class career spanning 20 years. He scored 10,991 first class runs and took 1,248 wickets.

He played for Leicestershire, Lancashire and Derbyshire and was part of the England side who last won the Ashes in Australia in 1986.
