Striker Paul Booth says Maidstone don’t need to sign a big frontman to thrive in the Ryman League, Premier Division.

Booth was rested at Margate on Monday to spare him starting two games in three days.

There have been calls for United boss Jay Saunders to sign a targetman in the mould of Shaun Welford or Ade Olorunda but Booth, 36, believes his partnership with new signing Frannie Collin is the way forward.

He said: “Personally, I’m going to say we don’t need to sign a big man. It’s the last thing I want because I want to play.

“Maybe it would give us another dimension but we had Shaun last year and all we did was smash it, which isn’t a route Jay wants to go down.

“I win my fair share of headers and can play the role, bringing the ball down, getting it into feet and having runners going off me.

“We link really well. He’s a clever player and can see a pass. I still think there’s more to come from us."
