Young arsonist cautioned over hay blaze

A 17-year-old youth has been given a caution by police after helping to set light to cut hay in fields in the Sutton Road area of Maidstone.

The incident took place at lunchtime on Sunday, September 2, when the youth assisted in setting fire to about 10 hay bundles in a field at the back of Otham Lane and Whitehorse Lane.

Firefighters were called to deal with the blaze. The hay bundles were awaiting collection to be put into bails and were worth around £300.

The 1rsonist was caught after CCTV footage was recovered by police, identifying him as one of the offenders.

Police believe others may have been involved and are appealing for information.
