Shoppers passed by on the other side when a man collapsed in the underpass at the bottom of Maidstone High Street today.

The prone man was lying for half an hour in the underpass.

Two passers-by however who did stop were unable to wake the man in his 20s, who was accompanied by his dog.

Concerned for his welfare, they called an ambulance, but before the emergency services arrived, a friend of the unconscious man appeared and managed to wake him. The man turned out to have over-imbibed. He apologised saying: "Sorry, I must have fallen asleep."
