Two die in road crashes

KENT Police have appealed for information following the deaths of a motorcyclist and a lorry driver in separate incidents on the county's roads.

A Belgian bike rider died after he was apparently in collision with a traffic island in Ebbsfleet, near Ramsgate.

A passing motorist found the man laying in the middle of Sandwich Road at about 12.40am on Monday beside his red Harley Davidson.

An ambulance took the man to hospital in Margate with serious head injuries but he later died. His name has not yet been released.

In a separate accident on Monday, a lorry driver died after his vehicle careered off the M20 and crashed into sewage works.

The Belgian-registered articulated lorry came off the London-bound carriageway at Lenham, near Maidstone.

Fire crews from Maidstone and Ashford, and ambulance crews, attended the scene. The carriageway was not closed as a result of the incident and there were no traffic delays.

A police spokeswoman said: "Kent Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision on the M20 this morning.

"The cause of the collision is not yet known and is being investigated by Kent Police. If you saw the vehicle immediately prior to the collision or have any further information relating to this incident please contact Kent Police on 01622 690690."

The tragedy happened at about 5.15am. The victim has not yet been named.
