Two accidents near the A249 causing delays between Maidstone and Sittingbourne

Two accidents within five miles of each other are causing delays between Maidstone and Sittingbourne.

A police incident was partially blocking the M20 exit slip road at Junction 7 for the A249 at Detling Hill.

Officers worked to clear the incident and the road has since reopened.

Further down the A249, just five miles away, both directions are closed and traffic is queuing due to an accident from South Green Lane to Junction 7 for the M20.

It's unclear if the incidents are linked.

The situation is being made worse by roadworks around the Stockbury roundabout, with the closure of the entry slip road for the coastbound M2 at Junction 5.

Temporary speed restrictions are also in place while the works are being carried out.

They are not expected to finish until January.

It comes as part of multi-million pound plans to transform the roundabout.
