Traffic stopped on M20 between junction 8 for Maidstone and junction 9 for Ashford

The M20 is being re-opened after police dealt with a person who’d climbed an overhead gantry.

Traffic was halted on the both carriageways between junction 8 for Leeds Castle and the Maidstone Services and junction 9 for Ashford earlier this afternoon.

One motorist who was travelling coastbound reported seeing four police cars.

“The lane which is for port traffic was at a standstill and there were loads of police around,” he said.

“I could not see what the incident was but could see a sign near a police car saying ‘do not pass’.

“In terms of delays, it has been delayed for 18 months while they have been doing the 50mph speed restriction between Maidstone and Ashford so I was not majorly delayed.

“There was a single lane going London-bound which was going really slowly.”

Traffic is expected to return to normal soon.
