A249 crash causing delays in Maidstone

A two-car crash has caused long delays and brought traffic to a standstill on a busy A-road.

Traffic on the A249 between Detling Hill and Stockbury Roundabout is queuing on the northbound carriageway close to Chalky Road.

One lane is blocked and both cars involved are said to have come to a stop in the central reservation.

The accident is believed to have happened at around 12.15pm.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "We were called at 12.13pm regarding a collision involving two cars on the Sittingbourne-bound carriageway of the A249 prior to the turning for Stockbury.

"Police officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene where a woman was treated for injuries that are described as minor.

"The outside lane has been closed while an oil spillage is removed and there will be some congestion until it is reopened."
