Tonbridge Angels boss Tommy Warrilow hails signing of Dover Athletic striker George Purcell

Tonbridge Angels manager Tommy Warrilow says the signing of George Purcell is massive news for the club.

The 24-year-old striker (pictured) signed a one-year deal this week after his release by Dover and Warrilow admitted: "As soon as George became available I made it my priority to try and get him on board, but I didn’t think I would."

A long-time admirer, Warrilow revealed he has tried to sign Purcell twice in the past, including when he was in charge at Horsham, and the pair had three meetings before he signed on Monday.

The move may have surprised many as Warrilow has a reduced budget and looks set to release three or four players.

He said: "I am looking to have quality, rather than quantity, next season which I think I have to do at this level."

Purcell also spoke to wealthy Conference South rivals Eastleigh, and is believed to have taken a pay cut.
