Tonbridge squandered a great chance of making progress in the FA Trophy on Tuesday night.

They lost their third qualifying round replay 2-1 against Conference North strugglers Bishop's Stortford at Longmead.

The hosts took the lead after seven minutes through Lee Browning, but that was the best it got for Tommy Warrilow's men, as Stortford recovered to win with goals by Daniel Subola and Dwight Gayle.

Browning (pictured) headed in at the far post to finish off Tonbridge's best move of the game, but they dropped off the pace, with Daniel Subola putting Stortford level just before the half hour with a low left foot shot that crept inside Lee Worgan's right hand post.

The second half was an even affair, Tonbridge skipper Scott Kinch seeing three efforts blocked inside the area, before Stortford went ahead 16 minutes from time, Gayle heading in at the near post after a flurry of corners.

Warrilow sent on substitutes Ade Olerunda and Chris Henry and both looked lively as Tonbridge pressed in vain for an equaliser.

Top scorer Frannie Collin went close twice to forcing extra-time, his first effort going just wide, and then denied by a fine stoppage-time save by Stortford keeper Jordan Archer, on-loan from Tottenham.
