A reveller who threatened door staff at a town centre bar before crashing his car while trying to flee the scene has been jailed.
Phillip Mensah had been thrown out of the venue in Market Buildings, Maidstone, in the early hours and after being ejected he made threats to the security team working on the door.
Police were called and officers spotted Mensah sitting in a white BMW parked in Earl Street. When they approached the vehicle it sped off, entering Fairmeadow and jumping a red light before colliding with another vehicle.
A woman in the vehicle Mensah hit had to be taken to a local hospital for treatment to serious injuries to her head and neck. Meanwhile, he ran from the scene and he was later arrested in Gabriel’s Hill.
Appearing at Maidstone Crown Court, the 36-year-old, of Rowan Lea, Chatham, pleaded guilty to a string of offences linked to the incident on April 9 last year - including causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, failing to stop when required to do so by a police constable and using threatening words and behaviour.
He was jailed for two-and-a-half years and also disqualified from driving for six years and three months.
Speaking after the sentencing, Kent Police district commander for Maidstone, Chief Insp Ray Quiller, said: "We take the safety of visitors and those who work in Maidstone's night time economy extremely seriously, and my officers are regularly in the town centre to prevent and respond to incidents of antisocial behaviour and disorder.
"On this occasion, a patrol promptly arrived after the incident was reported, and Mensah was arrested soon after his attempt to flee the scene.
"His actions towards the door staff were appalling and his disregard for the safety of pedestrians and other road users while driving was a disgrace. A prison sentence is entirely appropriate."
