Hundreds of people got their running shoes on for Sport Relief
in Maidstone.

The Maidstone Mile in Mote Park on Sunday, March 21 was
organised by Maidstone council and supported by the Kent Messenger.
About 850 people took part.

Events got under way at 10am with a six mile run. A three mile
race set off at 12.30pm, and 450 people congregated for the most
popular one mile run at 1.30pm.

Staff from Maidstone Leisure Centre helped warm the runners up
and some decided to notch up the miles in fancy dress.

The KM Group and kmfm showed their support throughout the day
with plenty of balloons for the youngsters and music to lift the
spirits. kmfm breakfast presenter Andy Walker helped get the first
race under way.

A council spokesman said they were overwhelmed by the
number of people who supported the event, raising thousands of
pounds to help disadvantaged children across the UK.
