Lower speed limit proposed for Sutton Road in Maidstone

Residents and motorists are being given the chance to object to proposals to reduce the speed limit on a key road into a town.

Kent County Council (KCC) is intending to drop the limit on the Sutton Road at Langley, just outside Maidstone from 40mph to 30mph.

The lower limit would apply from a point 42 metres west of the junction with New Road to the junction with Cobnut Avenue, to include the two roundabouts serving new housing estates there, at Langley Park and at the Countryside Properties development at Rosewood.

The area has been subject to much house-building in recent years.

KCC said the reduced speed would increase safety for pedestrians and motorists.

The reduction will become permanent automatically, unless KCC receives any objections by the deadline of February 20.
