It is 50 years since Dr Richard Beeching announced his plans to reshape Britain's railways - which basically involved taking an axe to 4,000 miles of track, hundreds of stations and thousands of rail-worker's jobs.

Few people are aware that Dr Beeching grew up in Maidstone, where he went to All Saints Primary and Maidstone Grammar Schools.

The hunt is on to pin down a picture of the young Beeching in the County Town.

He is known to be one pf the children in this photograph of Mr Sampson's class at All Saints in 1920. But which boy is Beeching?
