Schoolgirl dies after collision with car

A 15-year-old Kent schoolgirl has died in hospital almost two weeks after being struck by a car.

Larissa Shepherd had been involved in a collision with a dark coloured Ford Ka in New Cut Road in Maidstone.

It is believed the incident happened as the student from Maidstone's Valley Park Community School, and some friends, were making their way home to Grove Green from Vinters Park at around 9pm on Friday, October 26.

As Larissa attempted to cross the road near the Maidstone Studios, police say she stepped into the road and was struck by the car.

She stopped breathing at the scene but was brought back to life by a off-duty St John Ambulance member who give her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, before being taken to Maidstone Hospital and later transferred to King's College Hospital in London where she died.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collison to call PC Ian Malcolm on 01622 798538.
