Maidstone: Heath Road in Barming cordoned off by police

Part of a residential street was cordoned off by police following an alleged attempted murder.

Heath Road in Barming was sealed off between the junctions for Heath Grove and Hermitage Lane.

Police confirmed a man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident in the area around 7.20pm last night.

A man in his 70s was injured in Heath Road, and officers later seized a knife at a location in Fant.

The victim was taken to a London hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

The 51-year-old suspect is known to the victim and is also being treated in hospital for injuries, which are not serious. He remains in custody.

Martina Sotelo, who lives nearby, said she saw police officers scouring for evidence on the pavement opposite Barming Heath last night.

She said: "There were two police cars and an ambulance. I asked a police officer what had happened and they asked me to leave the area.

"They were looking at the ground with torches. I asked them if they were looking for anyone and they said no."

The cordon in Heath Road was lifted around 12.20pm today.
