Power cut in Tovil Green, Maidstone, after digger damages cable, UK Power Networks says

Homes and businesses in Tovil Green, Maidstone, are without power this evening after a digger damaged cables.

UK Power Networks, the company responsible for electrical supplies in the area, responding to a tweet from a councillor, revealed how the damage had occurred.

A spokesman said: "Sorry for the power cut there this evening. It seems workmen in the area damaged one of our cables with a digger."

The incident initially resulted in 14 customers losing power just before 2pm, and engineers turned off power for another seven just before 4pm.

While the damage was investigated, a further 151 customers had their power turned off just before 6.30pm.

Lib Dem Cllr Derek Mortimer had tweeted the company to ask what time the power would be restored.

Power was back on for most customers just after 9.15pm, but some did not have power until midnight.
