Pensioner cleared of sex attacks

A pensioner has walked free from court after being cleared of sexually assaulting two girls.

Maidstone Crown Court heard Bernard Leggat admitted to police following his arrest that he found one of the girls attractive, but denied abusing her and claimed she lied.

Prosecutor Dominic Connolly said 70-year-old Mr Leggat explained he got the impression the teenager was trying to tempt him.

Mr Leggat, of North Pole Road, Barming, denied seven charges of indecent assault, three of indecency with a child and one of indecent exposure in July 2007.

One girl claimed he stroked her buttocks and rubbed his hand over her chest area. The second girl told police Mr Leggat rubbed his hands over her body.

The jury of 10 women and two men acquitted him on Tuesday of all 11 charges. He had been on bail.
