A disused, dark, dirty and derelict industrial unit has been transformed into a pioneering new gym, tailor made for people with special needs.

The new Everybody’s Gym, situated on Unit 4 Kilnbridge Works, off Lower Road, East Farleigh, attracted more than 50 people within the first ten days of opening last month.

It took four months of dedication and hard graft to turn the unused unit into an ultra-modern gym.

Co-owner Paul Frost said: “Roy [Freedman, co-owner] and I wanted to build a gym that is hi-tech and modern because most gyms for people with learning disabilities are pretty basic.”

It is equipped for people who are both mentally and physically handicapped. The spa has access for wheelchair users and hand bikes are available for people with limited mobility.

It has attracted interest from several charities, including the Kent Autism Trust, Down Syndrome Society and the Royal British Legion.

Paul added:“People with mobility loss still need to keep themselves fit.
“Exercise not only helps people remain healthy, but the endorphines make the participants feel good,” he added.
