Motorists beware! The County Town's latest speed camera will start working next month.
The camera in Loose Road - positioned just above the sharp bend into Sheals Crecent - is designed to catch speeding motorists in either of the two Maidstone-bound lanes.
The camera will normally face forward, but can be turned around to catch the rear number-plates of motorcyclists.
The camera should have been operational already but this particular type requires sensors to be buried in the road surface and the existing carriagway was found to be a little loose.
It is due to be resurfaced in early September, at which point the sensors will be buried and white marker lines painted.
Even before the new camera becomes active it is having the desired effect. It is already marked on many Sat-Nav warning systems, and nearby resident Angela Sinclair wrote to say: “People are already slamming on their brakes as they approach.”
