Police investigating a murder are continuing to question one woman after a man's body was found on Monday.

Officers were called to a flat at Rocky Hill Terrace, Maidstone, at around 3pm on Monday and found the body of 69-year-old John Birney.

It is understood the body may have lain undiscovered for several days.

Inquiries were carried out to establish the circumstances behind the man’s death, and following the results of a post mortem examination, which was carried out on Wednesday, a murder investigation was launched.

A 48-year-old woman of no fixed abode remains in police custody. A 25-year-old-man and a 31-year-old woman from Maidstone have been bailed, pending further inquiries, until August 6.
