Marjorie Rose, The Mall Maidstone cleaner, signed off for another month after hip operation

Britain's oldest cleaner has been signed off for another month after breaking her hip.

Marjorie Rose, 96, was on her way to work at Maidstone's The Mall shopping centre when she slipped and was rushed to hospital.

Marj's grandson, David Gregory, confirmed doctors have told the much-loved employee she can't return to work until at least February while she recovers from her fall.

The 37-year-old said: "If she had her way she would be back there already."

He said she has started walking around without her zimmer frame and is desperate to get back to her feather duster.

The great-grandmother has been keeping the centre clean for more than 30 years but hasn't been able to go back since she tripped over cones hidden behind a wall by the Carriage Museum in Mill Street.

It resulted in her having a hip joint replaced at Tunbridge Wells Hospital.

The cones had been left behind after the A229 was resurfaced in December.

At the time, a Kent County Council spokesman said: "We are very concerned to hear what has happened to Mrs Rose and we wish her a full and swift recovery.

"The high visibility cones are being used whilst overnight resurfacing works take place in the area.

"During the day these are stored on the Carriage Museum property, in an area not intended for pedestrian use."
