More jobs at castle under threat

UP TO seven more jobs could go at Leeds Castle, near Maidstone. Several workers are in talks with bosses about their future at the tourist attraction.

Four staff were laid off in December. A downturn in tourism, especially from the United States, has hit Leeds Castle particularly badly.

"Consultations are going on," a spokeswoman said. "That means they can look at other positions, perhaps within the castle. It doesn't necessarily mean they will be laid off."

She added that seven was the maximum number of jobs that could be affected. At the height of the season, Leeds Castle employs more than 300 full-time and seasonal staff.
