A JEALOUS boyfriend punched his partner and shouted racial abuse at her mother in a string of incidents brought about by relationship troubles.

An angry mob pursued Daniel Parks, 18, after he committed the offences, magistrates at Maidstone heard.

Parks, of Cambridge Crescent, Maidstone, had admitted 10 offences, including the two assaults of his 18-year-old girlfriend, the racially-aggravated assault of her mother, and two counts of criminal damage.

He also confessed to assaulting a police officer, stealing a mobile phone and using a mobile phone to cause annoyance.

Piers Restell, prosecuting, said the trouble began on July 25, when Parks’s partner awoke at 7.30am to find him getting into bed with her and their son. He hit her twice in the head and neck but she pushed him away and ran to a neighbour’s house.

In another assault he turned up at her home, grabbed her by the hair, pulled her to the floor and punched her before leaving. She later found her phone missing.

In another incident, Parks was spotted slashing tyres. There was an argument and he threw his girlfriend’s mother to the floor, calling her a “black slag”.

Police were called and Parks ran towards one of the officers with his elbow raised. He hit the officer in the face.

The magistrates sentenced Parks to 180 days in prison, suspended for two years. He also received a community order and a requirement to complete 150 hours of unpaid work in the community.

He was ordered to pay £82.89 to Maidstone Housing Trust for the broken window, £100 for each of the two tyres he damaged, and £50 to the police officer.

Andrew Craske, defending, said the offences related to the breakdown of Parks’s relationship with his girlfriend.

Mr Craske said: “There have been rumours flying around which caused Mr Parks to question her actions and commitment to their relationship. Mr Parks is extremely remorseful for his actions. Alcohol played a part.”

Mr Craske added that friends of Parks’s girlfriend had taken the law into their own hands.

“They got it into their heads to pay Mr Parks a visit in the form of an angry mob, which attended his mother’s address,” said Mr Craske. Parks himself went to live in the Medway area, but the mob followed and made threats, and he had to move again.
