Three Essex men arrested after lorry broken into at Maidstone services on M20

A lorry driver sounded his horn as a group of men tried to break into his vehicle overnight.

The man saw people causing deliberate damage to the curtain side of his lorry as he was parked at Junction 8 services of the M20 near Maidstone at around 3.15am on Tuesday.

After he sounded his horn a group of men fled empty handed and left the scene in a car.

Police were alerted and the suspects were subsequently stopped in the Grays area of Essex having passed through the Dartford Crossing.

A search of the car led to various items being seized including a metal bar and a knife.

The suspects, a 46-year-old man from Billericay, a 30-year-old man from Grays and a man aged 40 from Tilbury, were arrested on suspicion of theft and going equipped for theft.

They were subsequently released pending further investigation.
