Man treated as fire crews respond to gas leak in Week Street, Maidstone

A man has been treated by paramedics as fire crews descended on a town centre high street to deal with a gas leak.

Firefighters were called to reports of a smell of gas in a flat above commercial premises in Week Street at 10.45am.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "One male was passed to the care of the ambulance service suffering from the effects of inhaling gas.

"Crews performed a search of the premises and assisted the gas engineer to make sure the leak was dealt with and the property left secure."

Firefighters left the scene at 11.41am.

South East Coast Ambulance Service has been approached for further details.
