Two hours stuck in lift at Staplehurst Station

Firemen were called to Staplehurst Station on Thursday last week to free a man trapped in the lift.

The call came in at 9.26am, but it was almost two hours before the victim was released.

The firefighters were able to open the doors a few inches and talk to the trapped victim through the crack, but an oil leak in a high pressure pipe, which caused the problem, prevented them doing more until a lift engineer arrived.

The lift enables the disabled and those with push-chairs an easier way of crossing over to the downline.

The victim was checked over by ambulance staff on release, but did not need hospital treatment.

The lift enables the disabled or those with prams and pushchairs to more easily use the bridge to cross the tracks to the down-line.
