A paedophile has been jailed for five years after admitting he sexually abused a teenager.

Trevor Peakall, from Hawkes Road, Eccles, was investigated by child protection detectives after his 14-year-old victim confessed they had a sexual relationship.

The 40-year-old began abusing the teen in March last year and was arrested in October.

Peakall pleaded guilty to five charges of sexual activity with a child and was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday.

DC Emma Crombie of Kent Police, said: "This was a serious case in which Peakall abused the trust a vulnerable young girl had placed in him by inciting her into a sexual relationship.

"His actions have had a significant impact on the victim and she will most likely feel the effects of this for a long time.

"I’d like to praise her courage in coming forward and am pleased the court has seen fit to jail Peakall."
