Man paid to grow 180 cannabis plants inside his Maidstone home

A Maidstone man has been jailed after he was paid to grow 180 cannabis plants in his home.

Rapo Tomori, 21, was arrested after police seized the crop inside his Holland Road home on Wednesday, January 10.

Seven rooms inside the property had been converted into cannabis factories, with lighting and other growing equipment.

When interviewed, Tomori told police he had been recruited by men he did not know to water and cut the plants.

The house had already been converted for the cultivation, with its electricity meter bypassed, and he received £2,500 every 45 days for his efforts.

Tomori was jailed at Maidstone Crown Court for one and four months, having been charged with production of controlled drugs.

Chief Insp Mick Gardner said: "This was large-scale cannabis cultivation that stood to make a significant amount of cash for the crime gang that arranged it.

"Tomori knew his criminal activities could lead to his arrest but he was tempted by the relatively large cash rewards on offer.

"I would urge residents to contact us if they think a neighbouring property has been converted for drug production."

Signs of a cannabis factory include a pungent smell coming from a building, windows being permanently covered and people calling daily or weekly but only for short periods of time.
