Man charged with racially abusing Maidstone Hospital staff

A 46-year-old man is set to appear in court accused of racially abusing staff at a hospital and committing an indecent act in front of a police officer.

Kent Police was called to a disturbance at Maidstone Hospital, Hermitage Lane, at around 8.45pm on Tuesday and the suspect was located by officers on a bus nearby.

He was arrested and taken into custody, where it is further alleged the man then racially abused and assaulted a police officer.

During another incident in custody, the suspect is also said to have committed an indecent act in front of an officer.

Carl Bailey, aged 46 and of no fixed address, was subsequently charged with a racially aggravated assault and with racially aggravated behaviour, causing intentional harassment, alarm or distress.

He was further charged with obstructing a police constable in the execution of their duty and indecent behaviour at a police station.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court today.
