Queen’s Road in Maidstone to reopen at London Road junction as £50M CityFibre project continues

A roadworks project which has been causing havoc for residents and motorists will see a major junction reopen this week.

Back in July, it was revealed part of the road used to access homes, schools and businesses would be closed on and off for nine months.

The telecomms giants announced the town would be one of the areas in Kent to have the upgrade to full fibre.

However, the overall project is not expected to be completed until 2027, having first launched in January.

CityFibre said it would be working in close partnership with Kent County Council (KCC) and residents to deliver a fast rollout while managing potential disruption.

Yet one avenue which has been most affected is Queen’s Road.

Work started in the area on July 30, and is estimated to be finished by April 14 next year.

People living nearby will see the junction of Queen’s Road and London Road, near the shopping complex, reopened on Friday morning (September 1).

An exact time of its opening is yet to be confirmed.

KCC councillor for Maidstone Central, Chris Passmore, said: “I have seen confirmation that the Queens Road and London Road junction will be open from early morning on Friday, September 1.

“Any further closures 'are now likely to be next year' (2024).

“On behalf of KCC, Lanes-i and CityFibre, I would like to thank those who have patiently handled the not insignificant disruption due to this closure over the summer.”

Reacting to the news on social media, one person commented: “Hooray - I can’t wait. It will make my job easier.”
