Maidstone United have sacked manager Peter Nott after eight months in charge.

Nott (pictured) had taken over from the management duo of Alan Walker and Lloyd Hume in February and helped the Stones to avoid relegation from the Ryman League Premier Division at the end of last season.

But Maidstone have made a bad start to the current campaign, with only one win in 11 matches, and the club's new owners, Oliver Ash and Terry Casey, decided that a change at the top was needed.

Stones' chief executive Bill Williams said: "It is always very difficult to make decisions of this kind, especially when you are dealing with someone who has been at the club for a very long time and given all he probably can.

"But we have had a dreadful run, sit bottom of the table, and something had to be done."

Williams said that the new board were hoping to announce the name of Nott's replacement before Tuesday night's home game with Hendon.
