Maidstone avoided a banana skin as they beat Combined Counties Premier Division side Bedfont 2-1 in the FA Cup first qualifying round at Homelands on Saturday.

Stones took the lead in the ninth minute when Jay Saunders headed in Dean Hernandez-Bradshaw's corner.

Saunders came close to making it 2-0 seven minutes later but his effort rattled the crossbar and Tom Parkinson's free-kick on 40 minutes was well saved by keeper Del Lewis.

The second half was a quieter affair until 15 minutes from time when substitute Jimmy Bottle doubled United's lead with a fine individual goal.

Maidstone were reduced to 10 men nine minutes from time when substitute Aaron Firth was sent off for an ugly two-footed tackle just 18 minutes after coming on.

Bedfont pulled one back from penalty spot in stoppage-time but it was too late for a fightback.

Tonbridge v Metropolitan Police

Tonbridge Angels are also through after getting the better of Metropolitan Police at Longmead.

In a game of few chances, Lee Minshull scored the only goal in the 39th minute when he netted through a crowd of players.
